The Archer is the ranged combat unit of your town.
Job Information
A Hearthling can be promoted to an Archer with the Archer's Bow and the right prerequisites (which is dependent on kingdom you play).
Ascendancy
In order for a Hearthling to become an Archer in the Ascendancy and Rayya's Children, they need to be at least level 3 in the Footman job.
Northern Alliance
In the Northern Alliance, any Hearthling can be promoted into an Archer as long as you have enough Archer's Bows for everyone. They serve as both the defenders and an early food source. They will occasionally hunt down wildlife in the area.
Equipment
When promoted, the archer is automatically equipped with The Archer's Cloak, the Archer's Padded Vest, and the bow itself. They can equip the following items as they level up:
